iCAMP's STEAM Classes for PS 145 Students!

Become a creator! iCAMP’s after school programs focus on teaching STEAM topics like coding, robotics, studio and graphic art, science, filmmaking, video game design, 3D printing, and more!

During each class students complete engaging and fun hands-on projects that encourage creativity, collaboration, and problem solving.

 

These classes are offered exclusively to PS145, The Bloomingdale School families and take place directly in the school building.

 

For each day, two periods of classes are offered: 2:30pm – 4:00pm and 4:00pm – 5:30pm. Sign up for the first period or both! If you sign up for both periods with iCAMP, your child will be with iCAMP instructors from 2:30pm – 5:30 pm and you will receive a discount of more than 40% on the second period!

Circuitry and Engineering Adventures

Join our exciting Engineering Adventures course and watch your child’s imagination soar! In this unique program, students will embark on a 15-week journey of discovery and innovation, working on a thrilling engineering challenge – such as building a hovercraft – from start to finish.

LEGO Engineering Exploration

LEGO Engineering Exploration is an introductory engineering and building program for children that ignites their natural curiosity and builds their habits of learning. Essential skills such as cooperation and problem-solving are exercised through the use of age appropriate Lego kits. Students will use these kits to build machines that teach principles like: gravity, potential and kinetic energy, buoyancy and density, probability, torque with gear movement, and more. Real world engineering challenges and themes are used to make projects engaging and fun!

Excited About Electricity:
Circuits, batteries, motors, and whirring gizmos abound in our introduction to electricity for young learners. iCAMPS’s: Excited about Electricity course is a perfect way to flip a switch in your child’s mind and get them excited about what exactly is going on inside of all their favorite devices.

Adventures in Science and Coding

This exciting class combines both plugged and unplugged coding activities to teach your child fundamental coding concepts, alongside hands-on science experiments that will help them grasp concepts such as chemical reactions and density.

Coding Concepts for Pre and Early Readers

Through a mixture of unplugged games/activities and software-based educational tools, students will learn about core coding principles such as conditionals, control flow, events, loops, and more. Instructors use concepts that children are familiar with to get across the fundamentals of this seemingly complex material. Students will progress from unplugged workshops to building their first block/symbol-based programs. Kids will have fun while building a skill that will open doors for them for the rest of their lives!

Environmental Explorers

Your child will look at the natural world with new eyes after taking iCAMP’s Environmental Explorers course. Filled with fun activities, science experiments, and creative projects, this class encourages students to better understand and appreciate nature and the physical laws that govern it.

Coding Creations: Introduction to Robotics and Engineering

Learning how to code is just the beginning – even for the youngest of engineers. In this coding and robotics course for pre and early readers, K-1 students will first learn the basic concepts behind programming. Then, with the help of LEGO Spike Essential robotics kits, they’ll bring those concepts into the real world through mechanical creations of their own design.

Little Einstein’s Fun with Science

Students will don their lab coats for this fun introduction to science! Through hands-on experiments, students will learn about chemical reactions, molecules and atoms, natural science, and more! Activities will relate challenging concepts to students’ real life experiences to make them accessible and engaging. Students will finish this class confident in their skills and excited about science for years to come!

Lego Robotics and Engineering: 

See your children grow and shine through an introductory robotics and coding course from LEGO. Students will take their background knowledge of STEM and put it into practice as they work in teams to design and build robots using Lego robotics kits. They will use their STEM skills combined with critical thinking to work as a team to build robots and compete in exciting, mission-based games. Along with building, children will also practice their coding skills as they program their robots to accomplish practical goals. Students will apply themselves in engaging activities and missions while gaining productive learning habits, confidence, and teamwork skills along the way.

Engineering and Circuitry Mavericks: 

This class is for daring and innovative students who are ready to push the boundaries of engineering and create their own unique solutions to complex problems. In this program, students will embark on a journey of discovery and creativity, tackling complex engineering problems and designing their own unique solutions over the course of 15 weeks.

Mad Scientists – Slime, and Goop, and Machines, oh my!: 

In this exciting deep dive into science concepts, 2nd-5th grade students will create their own slime recipes and understand the chemistry of polymers to do so, learn the engineering design process to create their own cars, extract DNA from peas, and much more! Class will focus on relating complex science concepts to what students experience in their everyday lives, and will teach students the scientific method by showing them how to use their five senses to understand the experiment they’ve completed and best predict the results of future experiments. Students will walk away from this class excited about the possibilities of many disciplines of science and empowered to take ownership of their science education and understanding of the natural world for years to come!

Wizarding World Adventures: Harry Potter-inspired Minecraft and Coding

Step into the enchanting realm of Wizarding World Adventures, where the magical world of Harry Potter collides with the captivating world of Minecraft! In this spellbinding class, budding wizards and witches will embark on an immersive journey that combines the enchantment of Harry Potter with the creative power of coding.

Coding and Video Game Design – Scratch & Minecraft

These courses introduce students to coding concepts, the fundamentals of video game design, and digital worldbuilding. Through project-based instruction using the Scratch coding language, students will learn about events, loops, variables, and other core coding concepts. In addition to using Scratch to build games, they will also use the Bloxels and Minecraft EDU platforms. These tools will help students gain an understanding of 3D environments and how to build robust games that include heroes, enemies, levels, power-ups, hazards, and more. Most importantly, students will have fun while building foundations in complex topics!

Gadgets and Gizmos: 

This class will excite young builders and budding engineers, and will light up lightbulbs in their minds and on their circuit boards! Students will use age-appropriate circuit kits to learn concepts such as power, current, resistors, and more, and will design and create their own circuits. Additionally, students will create motorized machines using what they know about simple circuits to understand how their circuit powers the motion in their machine. Students will engage their creative minds to design machines that create art, move quickly, create patterns, and more!

Code and Create an App: 

Put on your thinking “app” in this fun introduction to app development! Through the use of age-appropriate platforms and challenges, students will learn fundamental coding concepts and will be able to design app interfaces. Students will collaborate to test and revise app interfaces, and will practice giving constructive feedback to their peers. By the end of class, students will be developing apps of their own design!

Mighty Mechanics: 

Students will learn about the fundamental principles of motion and energy by creating their own machines! Through fun explorations and projects, students will be able to identify and create the parts of different simple and compound machines. They will be challenged to create machines that generate power and motion with no electricity and will hone their engineering skills by testing and remodeling their creations. By the end of class, students will be able to create machines that move using the power of wind, drag, hydraulics, potential energy, and more! Students will come out of class excited to continue engineering and creating!

Minecraft Club: 

This course introduces students to building and design principles in Minecraft Education Edition. Students will grow their design skills through exciting activities like building sculpture gardens and creating a campsite. Then we will dive into building virtual worlds both individually and as a group, and will tap into students’ creativity to ultimately design a town together. The oldest students will learn how to use Minecraft’s block-based programming language. Students will embark on missions and will learn coding skills such as conditionals, variables, and more!

Future Entrepreneurs and Innovators

In this course, students will learn about the entrepreneur’s journey along with helpful skills and tools that will set them up for success. They will dream up their business ideas and discover what it takes to bring these ideas to life. Moreover, they will practice collaboration, teamwork, and learn about the importance of dividing up project tasks. Students will leverage graphic design tools to build their brands, develop promotional websites, and use digital design, coding, and 3D modeling software to bring their products to life. They will also all pitch to the class in our own little Shark Tank!
