iCAMP's STEAM Classes for PS-527 Students!

Become a creator! iCAMP’s after school programs focus on teaching STEAM topics like coding, robotics, studio and graphic art, science, filmmaking, video game design, 3D printing, and more!

 

During each class students complete engaging and fun hands-on projects that encourage creativity, collaboration, and problem solving. These classes are offered exclusively to P.S. 527 families and take place directly in the school building. 

 

Each day classes are offered from 2:30pm – 5pm. In order to better accommodate your schedule we also offer an extended day from 5pm – 6pm!

Moveable Machines:
Is your child fascinated by all things that go “vroom?” If so, iCAMP’s Moveable Machines course might be exactly what the doctor ordered. Focusing on simple and compound machines that can generate power and motion without using electricity, this course provides space for students to explore their need for speed in a safe, controlled environment.

Mighty Mechanics:

This course proves that science can be an exciting and dynamic discipline by putting the gears directly into your child’s hands! Each lesson is designed to provide students with hands-on experience behind some of the most fundamental concepts in mechanical engineering.

LEGO Engineering Exploration

Take your child’s knack for building to another level with iCAMP’s LEGO Engineering Exploration course. In this class, students will use classic LEGO pieces to solve hands-on engineering challenges, like building and stress-testing a bridge, constructing storm-proof towers, and more!

With the help of the incredible LEGO SPIKE Essential kits, students can experience the wonder of their first robotics course. During each lesson, students will be challenged to build a new robotic gadget or gizmo to solve a problem through exciting, story-based challenges. Then, they can learn the ins-and-outs of coding to operate their robot creations and complete the challenge.

Coding Concepts for Pre and Early Readers

Build the foundation of a coding future for your child with Coding Concepts for Pre and Early Readers. This course combines unplugged, analog activities and age-appropriate coding software to build a knowledge base for a future in programming. Each of the coding fundamentals introduced in Coding Concepts are demonstrated first through hands-on activities designed to get children of this age group active and interested in coding.

Coding with Scratch and Video Game Design with Minecraft Edu

Get the most of your child’s screen time by challenging them to think deeper about the games they play. This course introduces core coding concepts like loops, conditionals, and events to young students, utilizing block-based coding platform Scratch to give them the hands-on experience they need to improve as amateur coders. Once these principles have been enforced, students will move on to working with Minecraft Education Edition.

Coding and Video Game Design with Python

These courses introduce students to coding concepts, the fundamentals of video game design, and digital world building. Through project-based instruction using the Scratch coding language, students will learn about events, loops, variables, and other core coding concepts. In addition to using Scratch to build games, they will also use the Bloxels and Minecraft EDU platforms. These tools will help students gain an understanding of 3D environments and how to build robust games that include heroes, enemies, levels, power-ups, hazards, and more. Most importantly, students will have fun while building foundations in complex topics!

Environmental Explorers:

Your child will look at the natural world with new eyes after taking iCAMP’s Environmental Explorers course. Filled with fun activities, science experiments, and creative projects, this class encourages students to better understand and appreciate nature and the physical laws that govern it. Over time, your Environmental Explorers will come to understand what makes the Earth special and how we can best protect and sustain our own environment.

Minecraft Club:

In iCAMP’s Minecraft Club for 1st-5th graders, students will be introduced to concepts like sequential logic, circuitry, and basic coding, all while improving their 3D design skills and engaging in socioemotional learning. By the end of the course, students will learn how to use redstone to build circuitry in Minecraft and use the Minecraft Education Edition’s block-based coding language to learn concepts like conditionals, loops, and variables.
