LEGO Engineering Exploration

LEGO Engineering Exploration is an introductory engineering and building program for children that ignites their natural curiosity and builds their habits of learning. Essential skills such as cooperation and problem-solving are exercised through the use of age appropriate Lego kits. Students will use these kits to build machines that teach principles like: gravity, potential and kinetic energy, buoyancy and density, probability, torque with gear movement, and more. Real world engineering challenges and themes are used to make projects engaging and fun!

Grades: K – 1

Lego Robotics and Engineering:

See your children grow and shine through an introductory robotics and coding course from LEGO. Students will take their background knowledge of STEM and put it into practice as they work in teams to design and build robots using Lego robotics kits. They will use their STEM skills combined with critical thinking to work as a team to build robots and compete in exciting, mission-based games. Along with building, children will also practice their coding skills as they program their robots to accomplish practical goals. Students will apply themselves in engaging activities and missions while gaining productive learning habits, confidence, and teamwork skills along the way.

Coding Concepts for Pre and Early Readers

Through a mixture of unplugged games/activities and software-based educational tools, students will learn about core coding principles such as conditionals, control flow, events, loops, and more. Instructors use concepts that children are familiar with to get across the fundamentals of this seemingly complex material. Students will progress from unplugged workshops to building their first block/symbol-based programs. Kids will have fun while building a skill that will open doors for them for the rest of their lives!

Grades: K – 1

Coding and Video Game Design: Scratch & Bloxels

With the help of Scratch, a block-based coding platform, and other coding software, students in Grades 2 through 3 will learn the core concepts needed to create their own digital worlds and projects. Scratch will help to introduce concepts like events, loops, and more while encouraging students to use code to bring their own designs and imagination to life.

Once these skills have been honed, these young coders will transition over to Bloxels, a pixel-based platform that will help them learn the fundamentals of game design. With these tools, young coders can take control of their favorite video game elements, creating their own heroes, power-ups, levels, challenges, hazards, and much more!

Grades: 2 – 3

Coding and Video Game Design: Python & Minecraft

These courses introduce students to coding concepts, the fundamentals of video game design, and digital worldbuilding. Through project-based instruction using the Python coding language, students will learn about events, loops, variables, and other core coding concepts. In addition to using Python to build games, they will also use the Minecraft EDU platforms. These tools will help students gain an understanding of 3D environments and how to build robust games that include heroes, enemies, levels, power-ups, hazards, and more. Most importantly, students will have fun while building foundations in complex topics!
